Round 2 of the Thundersport GB series was hosted at Snetterton and set challenging conditions for the Delkevic sponsored riders, Liam Marchant and Carl Vickers.

This was Liam’s first round with Thundersport GB for the 2019 season on board his ZX10R having missed Brands Hatch. The weekend was set to be challenging from the start with the ever-changing weather conditions at Snetterton.

Qualifying was always going to be a challenge for both riders with the decision of which tyre to go out on was constantly changing. With such a competitive class Liam was pleased with his qualifying position of P11 in the GP1 class and Carl managed a 7th on the grid in the Golden Era supersport on board his pre injection R6.

Race 1 The race on Saturday didn’t go according to plan for Liam. Forgetting to zero the quick shifter meant the bike was not responding as it should have through the gears.  Liam came in meaning a DNF and soon realised the issue. With mega laps out, this meant that Liam would start from 27th on the grid making Sundays races an uphill struggle.

Carl had a great start in his first race of the weekend and made places up to 3rd position. Unfortunately, a fellow competitor lost traction coming out of Murray's hairpin and Carl had nowhere to go and was wiped out resulting in a DNF.

Race 2 Liam didn’t get the best of starts but soon got the bit between his teeth and made his way through the pack and finished P8 in class (12th Overall).

Although extremely wet conditions, Carl got off the line well and was immediately mixing it with the leaders of the race. Getting on the throttle too early saw Carl lose the back end of the R6 and almost part company with the bike. Managing to gain control, many places were lost and Carl dropped to 17th position. Soon back into a groove, he was on charge and up to 6th position. The final lap proved a disaster as tipping into Riches and loosing the front end resulted in Carl skidding into gravel trap at over 100mph! Thankfully, Carl was OK and the bike was repairable!

Race 3 Again not the best of starts but track conditions were far better and there was no stopping Liam, cutting through the pack of riders ahead of him coming over the line P11 in class (14th overall).

Due to the DNF in the previous race, Carl was starting race 3 from 22nd on the grid. Having a great time out on track and building his confidence back saw him cross the line in avery respectable 11th place.

Race 4 (for Carl) Again starting from row 8 and 22nd on the grid, Vickers rode an impressive race showing absolute commitment and brought the R6 home in 5th place, earning some very well deserved championship points.

Liam is now looking forward to the next round at Cadwell Park. It is his home circuit and he is hoping to also have the new Delkevic Racing ZX10RR out for it’s first run on the Thundersport GB GP1 grid.

Comments from Liam:

"I would like to say a big thank you to Delkevic UK Ltd, Blackbird Corporate Ltd, Drury Engineering, Vital Hydrographics, Colin Port, my dad, Richard Shoesmith, Carl from CV Racing, Emma Field, Tom Dixon and Rachel Crowder for their support. Also thank you to Gary Johnson and Lee Hardy Racing for letting me into their garage on a cold and wet weekend."

Carl Vickers:

"A big shout out to my Team - who, despite what was an awful start to the racing (3 times out and 3 crashes) all came together and made sure we were ready for the next time out! My sponsors – Fuchs Lubricants UK who ensure the bike has the best products to make the bike run at its best.  Delkevic UK for all the Dyno and engine work.  Helmet City Race Support assistance with our race kit.  Jem Race Components for all the Carbon parts and the prototype seat unit, Holbeach Tyres for their support with tyres, Blackbird Corporate for their continued support over the last 5 years.  Emma our mechanic for everything she does to make sure the bike is back out and ready.  Finally, Lisa, who is always there as a rock and ensures everything stays calm.  Roll on Cadwell next month!"

Delkevic look forward to supporting both riders at round 3 of the Thundersport GB championship which takes place at Cadwell Park on 25th - 27th May and wish both teams the very best of luck.
